Western blot analysis of p53 in HeLa cell lysates with p53 antibody (ICP7110)
A: 15 µg/mL crude protein
B: 45 µg/mL crude protein
P53 (tumour protein 53 or TP53) regulates the cell cycle by acting as a transcription factor. It suppresses tumours and hence it is often described as "the guardian of the genome", "the guardian angel gene", or the "master watchman". This refers to its role in conserving stability by preventing genome mutation. P53 refers to its molecular mass (53 kDa) on SDS-PAGE.
