This antibody is developed and affinity purified using a peptide based on the human p53 sequence (4-40 aa). The p53 antibody is conjugated to peroxidase (HRP) via reductive amination. It is tested to detect human p53 specifically in human cells and tissues. Direct labeling of HRP on the primary antibody is believed to avoid the effect of IgG (50-60 kDa) signal from use of secondary antibodies.

P53 (tumour protein 53 or TP53) regulates the cell cycle by acting as a transcription factor. It suppresses tumours and hence it is often described as "the guardian of the genome", "the guardian angel gene", or the "master watchman". This is referring to its role in conserving stability by preventing genome mutation. P53 refers to its molecular mass (53 kDa) on SDS-PAGE.
